For my 12th birthday (in 1989!) my Aunty Bonnie gave me a copy of Lonely Planet’s guidebook to Japan, which I read excitedly every night for almost 18-months, until the departure date for the excursion to visit our sister school in Shizuoka, and my first experience of the magic of Japan, finally came.
Two decades later, to find myself trekking around Kyūshū as a co-writer of that same guidebook, was the first of many childhood dreams fulfilled.
Since that first assignment, it’s been a privelege to have worked on so many projects and taken so many journeys for Lonely Planet and my fellow adventurers. I’ve been a contributing author or curator for the English-language editions of the guidebooks you see below, many of which have been translated into other languages.
